WIFT-AT Statement

June 4, 2020

Women in Film and Television - Atlantic shares the deep concern being expressed about anti-Black racism in Minneapolis and everywhere it occurs. We stand with those fighting racism and now is the time to be vocal.

Challenging racism is everyone’s responsibility and the film and television community has an important role to play. A lack of diversity continues to persist in the Canadian film and television industry due to systemic inequality and bias. If you are in a position of power and privilege, think about how your work portrays Black people, the diversity of your cast and crew, and ask yourself if you are listening to and elevating minority voices in the room.

As an organization, we can do better. We commit to listening, learning and doing more.
