Preparing for the Audition with Fiona Reid

On October 27, 28, WIFT-AT, in Association with ACTRA Maritimes will present a two-day workshop with one of Canada’s best known actors, Fiona Reid.
What To Expect:
Day 1: Getting the Job -
Participants will learn how to approach the script and work on it, what questions to ask yourself when you’re dealing with not enough information and discuss the technical constraints and freedoms of an audition. Day 2: Now That You've Got The Role, How Do You Prepare For Your Day(s)
- Actors will work on how to prepare, what questions to ask oneself, how to give oneself rehearsal when there is none. Each actor will perform their scene once and on the second pass the class will break it down.
About the Instructor:
Having performed in theatres across the country, as well as numerous roles in TV and film, Fiona Reid is one of Canada's best-known actors.
Her stage career includes five seasons with the Stratford Festival and
twelve seasons with the Shaw Festival, as well as theatres in Great Britain and the U.S.
Her performances have garnered her two Dora Mavor Moore awards, a Jessie Award (Vancouver) and a Sterling Award (Edmonton). In 2015, Fiona received the Toronto Critics’ Award for her performance of Sonia in Vanya, Sonia, Masha and Spike (Mirvish Productions).
Her career has been marked by diverse signature roles that include Amanda in The Glass Menagerie, Blanche Dubois in A Streetcar Named Desire, Martha in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd, Violet in August, Osage County, and HM The Queen in The Audience, amongst many others.
Her movie credits include One Week, The Time Traveller’s Wife and My Big Fat Greek Wedding. In 2010, ACTRA honoured her with their Award of Excellence, a distinction that followed the Toronto Life Women of Distinction Award.
In 2006 Fiona was made a Member of the Order of Canada, and received the Barbara Hamilton Memorial Award in 2008. She has been awarded an honorary doctorate from Bishop’s University and is a graduate of McGill University. Fiona recently completed her term as President of the AFC, formerly the Actor’s Fund of Canada.
