Attn: Calling all film-inspired, professionally-aspired women aged 18-30 !!

New Waves is WIFT-AT’s workshop-based initiative for women* aged 18-30. It is a series of five workshops for a group of 8-10 participants with an interest in the Film and Television industries. No previous experience required.

The New Waves program will be taking place during the months of March and April. It will kick off alongside the Women Making Waves conference — an entire weekend of events and opportunities that the participants will be welcome to attend as WIFT-AT’s special guests. During the conference, they will be paired with a mentor who will show them the ropes.

As a series of five workshops, each intensive is hosted by one or several industry professionals and will take place on Saturday mornings from 10AM to 3PM. The workshops will cover directing, producing, production management, writing and technical/on-set skills. Participants will come out of the experience with a well-rounded education about each one of these important roles.

The purpose of the New Waves program is to foster appreciation and understanding of this sector in Nova Scotia and to empower these young women so that they feel able to pursue their interest--and perhaps a career--in film, television or digital media. *As a product of Women in Film and Television Atlantic, the program is catered to women, however, WIFT-AT is an inclusive organization and we encourage anyone who is interested and comfortable with the profile of this program, to apply.

WIFT-AT is an organization with more than 200 members, many of whom are well-established professionals in the industry. In light of this, we strive to cultivate our unique ability to provide contacts and mentors amongst our broad network, and hope to inspire a younger generation. It is this younger generation of women who will continue to address and combat the gender imbalance of those entering this industry.

We are accepting applications from now until February 15. The registration fee for all five weeks of workshops is $50. We ask that applicants submit a cover letter expressing their interest and intent. For more information, check out our website:
